This photographer’s studio and residence is located on the eastern coast of Spain in the seaside village of Sitges. Just a 30 minute drive south from Barcelona International Airport, the space offers two large photography studios totaling 800 square meters as well as spa and accommodations for visitors.
The project’s programming and functional relationships were zoned and separated on the 3 levels. The lower floor offers all the studios and amenities associated with the photography studios. The main level functions for living and entertaining guests and the upper level for sleeping. The structure intentionally offers a more private facade to the west street, while opening up with large glazing and pivot doors to the views of the garden to the west. The roof terrace caps the spaces with beautiful views to the east out to the Balearic Sea.
Corten steel roofing swoops over the main living space in a graceful curve and turns down to form the west entry facade. Large pivot doors are used to provide the main entry and to connect to the west patio and pool terrace. Concrete walls with custom steel windows and detailing are used throughout the project. Large windows utilize integral shutters to allow the owner to monitor the light throughout the day.
